We believe that small businesses have long been underestimated and overlooked. As a result, 31 million small businesses have not reached their full potential.

One significant area of need are financial management tools. Business owners find current solutions overly complex and time-consuming, ultimately resulting in difficulty managing cash flow, loan denials from traditional lenders, costly tax penalties, and the inability to grow and scale profitably over time.

With our all-in-one app, owners can manage their business banking, payments, accounting, taxes, payroll, and cash flow in one place, from their smartphone or tablet.

Our vision

Backbone will build a global ecosystem of financial services solutions, purpose-built for microbusinesses, that will enable resilient owners to start, run, grow, and scale thriving businesses.

Our story

A banker and attorney for over a decade, our founder saw small businesses struggle to manage their finances and the consequences of those struggles. Deserving owners experienced cash flow management issues, the inability to access capital needed to grow, insurmountable federal and state tax penalties, and outright business failure.

Saddened by the effects the COVID-19 pandemic had on small businesses, independent contractors, and freelancers and how they were effectively locked out of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan relief, he formed Backbone Technologies.

Drawing from first-hand experience and conversations with hundreds of business owners as well as lenders, CPAs, attorneys, seasoned accountants and bookkeepers, tax preparers, and federal, state, and local policymakers, Backbone built a financial management and education platform with the ultimate goal of empowering business owners to realize their unique potential and uplift their communities.
